The Snow Monkeys of Jigokudani near Shiga Kogen, Nagano.

After two kilometers of very snowy forest trail we came upon this amazing scene.

It’s good to be the king, but judging by the missing finger he’s had to fight for the right to sit in the sauna and been attended to by the gang.

Hong Kong buildings remind of some type of coral-like organic life form.

A good example of the ‘Porosity’ of Asian city living…

Clifton Pugh’s portrait of Gough Whitlam in Parliament House in Canberra.

After Gough Whitlam was dismissed as a result of the Australian constitutional crisis of 1975, he refused to sit for the traditional portrait which is done of Australian Prime Ministers.  He instructed that the 1972 Archibald Prize winning portrait by Clifton Pugh be used instead.

Governor Macquarie’s Rum Hospital http://digibrown.com/2010/04/sydney-hospital-fountain/ http://digibrown.com/2010/04/sydney-hospital-fountain/#comments Fri, 09 Apr 2010 05:11:59 +0000 anubis2020 http://digibrown.com/?p=207

My daily walk into town through some sydney history…yes we do have some history.

The Sydney Hospital is the oldest hospital in Australia, dating back to 1788, and at its current location since 1811. Rum was the currency of the colony and Governor Macquarie gave a rum monopoly to three locals if they built him a splendid hospital in return.

Nurse training in Australia began on site in 1868 when Florence Nightingale sent out Lucy Osburn and five other English sisters. The brick and sandstone Gothic Revival Nightingale Wing of 1869 off the central courtyard, with its colourful fountain, was built to the plans of Florence Nightingale to house the first nursing school.

Westminster abbey College garden …u can’t get much more English than that.

College Garden occupies a site that has been under continuous cultivation for more than 900 years. It was here that the Abbey’s first Infirmary garden was established in the eleventh century.
